Hi Team!
It’s that time again for another blog post!
This week we have been working on one of the most basic fundamentals of BJJ – the mount position. Mount is often overlooked as not flashy and somewhat difficult to control. These are both true statements. However, mount is in my opinion, the most valuable control position in all of BJJ. Indeed, if you can master mount, you will develop very strong positional awareness for almost every other area of Jiu Jitsu.
In terms of self-defence, mount is insurmountably (heh) valuable. It allows for extreme degrees of control over your opponent, whilst keeping you both safe.
In terms of sport BJJ, it is still the king. It allows you to wear your opponent out and force them to use too much energy – energy that they need for later, but can’t afford to save.
Overall, it’s phenomenal and should be studied extensively.
Down South in Tasmania in our Mornington location, Professor Evan has been working on takedowns. We do BJJ on the ground, but we still need to get there. Wrestling and Judo are the best for that!
Pop in for some training and sharpen those skills!
